Why I
Acquired A Shower Curtain
One staff
members tale of replacing their old worn out
shower door with a shower curtain.
For the longest
time, pretty near forty years, the shower that
flowed into the tub in the bathroom had a
two-part door, that slid sideways on ball
bearing balanced rollers, and was designed to
keep the room floor dry.
As the years passed, three serious problems
developed. The rollers wore out, the doors began
to slip off the metal tracks that held them
upright and a disgusting mold began to grow on
the bathroom tiles and metallic parts holding up
the shower door.
Unfortunately, the mold, which bleach spray
would force into retreat, would always stage a
comeback, making professional help necessary.
Instead of hiring an experienced mold cleaning
company to permanently solve this problem, the
housing company that manages my building opted
to replace the susceptible tiles with new ones
along with removing and replacing the old tub,
faucet, shower head and old faucet knobs and
also suggested I buy a shower curtain to replace
the clumsy door, because it was more convenient,
cheaper to install and would allow air to flow
in the small room and, thus, help prevent the
mold.
So I asked the workers to put up a rod to hold a
curtain, which was done, and then I measured the
diameter of the rod, its length and the height
of the room and proceeded to visit the local
bathroom accessory emporium.
I carefully checked out the available choices
and picked a long, plastic blue curtain
decorated with a white floral pattern.
When I got home, I opened the plastic envelope
containing the curtain and plastic hooks,
carefully read the assembly instructions,
minimal, and went into the bathroom to insert
the twelve plastic hooks into the twelve
individual copper ringed holes on the top of the
new shower curtain and, finally, slip each of
the twelve hooks over the rod and, finally,
study how the curtain separated the tub area
from the rest of the bathroom.
Yes, it looked like the shower was ready for use
and a test proved it worked well. The feature I
like best about the new shower barrier is the
fact that I can vary how much curtain I use from
full length to half the tub to scrunched up in a
corner out of the way so I can spray the far
reaches of the tub.
